~ Venom to Ashley as he punches the wall down right behind him

We are VENOM!
~ Venom

I like being mad, it makes me happy.
~ Venom to Spider-Man

You know nothing about us. But, we know everything about you! You see us everywhere, even in your nightmares!
~ Venom to Spider-Man

And it was hatred for Spider-Man that brought us together as Venom! How shall we thank the web-slinger? Perhaps we could kiss his still-beating heart -- just before we devour it!
~ Venom

No one's being controlled! We simply share the same desire: your destruction!
~ Venom

We are poison to BOTH Peter Parker and Spiderman. We are VENOM! Destroying you now will be too easy. You haven't suffered enough, and we want to dismantle you piece by piece.
~ Venom

No, no, no. You've got it all wrong. Venom's old news... All played out. These days I prefer to be called-- Toxin!
~ Toxin

Edward Charles Allan Brock, more famously known as Venom, also known as Anti-Venom and Toxin, is an anti-hero from Marvel Comics. He is a former Spider-Man villain, but has since moved onto a life of vigilantism.

Background[]

Eddie Brock was once a down on his luck reporter who lost his job after it was revealed the he fabricated the identity of the Sin-Eater, a serial killer. He was also divorced by his wife, disowned by his father, and diagnosed with adrenal cancer. Contemplating suicide over his life falling apart, Eddie blamed Spider-Man for his misfortunes, as he was the one who discovered the Sin-Eater's true identity and brought him to justice, and he went to church to beg for forgiveness. However, he soon discovered a strange alien creature known as a symbiote, which sensed Eddie's disttrs. This symbiote had crash-landed on Earth and bonded with Spider-Man previously, making him stronger, but at the cost of augmenting his rage and attempting to permanently bond with him. Spider-Man would then discard the symbiote, leaving it at that same church just before Eddie arrived. Needing a new host, the symbiote bonded itself with Eddie, and the two both learned about their shared hatred for Spider-Man. Swearing vengeance for the wrongs Spider-Man commited against them, the two would become Venom, one of Spider-Man's most dangerous villains.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Peak Human Physique: Eddie has pushed his body to its normal limits on his own, and can run and lift at the rate of an Olympic athlete.
  • Skilled Klyntar Slayer: Due to his experience with various Klyntars like Venom and Toxin, Eddie has extensive knowledge and skill useful for combating them.
  • Venom Symbiote: By bonding with the Klyntar known as Venom, Eddie gains access to an alternate form that offers him a variety of abilities.
    • Superhuman Strength: Before he came into contact with the costume, Brock had conditioned himself to lift (press) 700 lb. Once they merged, the costume added Spider-Man’s superhuman strength to Brock’s vast human strength, making him more powerful than Spider-Man. However, his full strength often fluctuates. Venom has demonstrated strength ranging from only slightly greater than Spider-Man's to being capable of trading blows with high-powered individuals such as Juggernaut. This is caused by the several mutations that the symbiote took with Brock, gaining additional bulk and muscle mass over long periods of time with its host.
    • Superhuman Durability: Venom's body is highly resistant to physical injury, capable of withstanding assault from high-caliber bullets as well as attacks from super powered individuals. When distributed at a typical thickness over Brock's body, the symbiote is capable of absorbing bullets from small-arms weapons firing conventional ammunition. The symbiote is however particularly vulnerable to both sonic and heat-based attacks.
    • Superhuman Stamina: Venom is also capable of surviving in harmful areas for long periods of time such as underwater or in toxic gases, the symbiote filtering breathable air to the host.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: Additionally, the symbiote is capable of healing injuries in the host at a faster rate than normal human healing allows. The symbiote is also capable of healing injuries and illnesses that current human medical care cannot such as cancer. The symbiote has enabled its host to recover from injuries that should have been lethal, such as Mac Gargan being impaled by the Swordsman's Makluan Sword; and Flash Thompson being impaled by Toxin's blade-arm, and having his head sliced in half by Jack O'Lantern V's scythe.
    • Genetic Memory: The symbiote possesses some psychic ability, making it capable of obtaining information from its hosts and even other people and symbiotes simply by touch; The symbiote is capable of recalling information from previous hosts. This ability allowed Eddie Brock to know the secret identity of Spider-Man when the symbiote bonded with him. It can however, be forced to forget information if the symbiote is inflicted with heavy trauma.
    • Offspring Detection: The symbiote is also capable of psychically detecting its offspring, however with effort this ability can be blocked.
    • Body Chemistry Manipulation: In order to gaslight Eddie into believing he had terminal cancer, the Venom symbiote altered his biochemistry to simulate the symptoms. After being temporarily reconnected to Knull's hive mind, the symbiote gained the ability to directly affect the neurochemical functions within its host in order to induce various psychological effects, such as calmness, sleep, or even memory suppression.
    • Telepathy: the symbiotes species communicate both psionically and biochemically with the host and each other. Their powers of the mind initially start out as weak without a host to bond to. Venom's years fused to Eddie Brock had more than strengthened its lingering psychic powers to the point its screams of anguish could be felt across all of New York. While indwelled by a demon, Agent Venom employed this creatively through his tendrils to seize control of an army of mercenaries. After coming into contact with Knull, the symbiote displayed the ability to telepathically communicate with other symbiotes.
    • Constituent-Matter Manipulation: While the symbiote did not use this ability frequently when bonded to Eddie Brock, it was capable of transforming parts of its host's body: it once morphed Venom's hands into scythe-like hooks and sword-like blades during a battle against Nova, and turned his arms into bat-like wings to let him glide. After being augmented by Knull, the symbiote developed the ability to manifest wings resembling those of the Grendel symbiote-dragon in order to fly. Venom could also project its biomass into a multi-layered shield to better withstand powerful attacks. When bonded to Mac Gargan, it used this ability to grow a tail, emulating Gargan's appearance as the Scorpion. When bonded to Flash Thompson, the symbiote regularly displayed the ability to morph sections of Agent Venom's body, such as his hands or feet, into spikes, blades, axes or a shield.
      • Constituent-Matter Generation: The symbiote can use the living abyss comprising its matter to generate tendrils and pseudopods, and can use this for lethal effect against criminals. While Spider-Man was unaware it possessed this ability and did not consciously use it, Eddie Brock and its subsequent hosts would often use this ability offensively, such as by sending a part of the symbiote into a victim's body to smother them from the inside.
      • Object Enhancement
    • Digital Immersion: In a battle with its offspring Carnage, the Venom symbiote and its host displayed the ability to physically enter into the Internet on a “molecular level” and travel between hard-wired computers through Ethernet cables.
    • Camouflage/Invisibility: The symbiote is capable of shapeshifting to mimic the appearance of any form of clothing, can camouflage with its surroundings to appear invisible, and can even mimic the appearance of other people. Peter Parker only used the former ability during the brief period he was bonded to it, while Brock's preferred form of clothing was a black shirt, jacket and pants.
    • Empathetic Empowerment: The Venom symbiote, like others of its kind, is capable of feeding off its host's negative emotions - chiefly rage, hatred, and bloodlust - in order to augment itself. However, doing so has a corrupting effect on the symbiote, causing it to become increasingly bloodthirsty, cruel, and feral.
    • Symbiote Assimilation: In a similar manner to how the Hybrid symbiote was formed, Venom is capable of amalgamating with other symbiotes in order to bolster their shared power. It merged with its clone, increasing its strength by an unknown degree; and amalgamated with Rex Strickland's symbiote in order to become powerful enough to face Knull and the Grendel symbiote.
    • Venomous Fangs: An ability developed by Eddie Brock upon bonding with the symbiote. Originally he commanded the symbiote to sprout a maniacal grin and tongue, differentiating him from Spider-Man. Later it was revealed that this set of fangs not only intimidates foes but can deliver a powerful, venomous bite (true to Brock's namesake). This bite was able to cripple the Sandman, eventually leaving the villain-turned-hero unable to reform himself properly and almost causing his death.
    • Stretching and Deforming: Although it's widely known that the symbiote can stretch and deform itself, recently it was able to perform this ability while bonded with a human host. Venom can expand to any size as long as they have something to grow on such as a host or an object. Symbiotes can get inside of small areas such as electric wires and the insides of cars and completely disable them.
    • Telepathy Resistance: As a result of Venom being a bond between two separate minds, it takes longer than conventional for a telepath to affect its mind. This defense is not absolute, however. Additionally, attempting to telepathically incapacitate Venom by targeting the host does not prevent the symbiote from fighting back.
    • Energy Absorption & Transference: After connecting to the Symbiote Hive-Mind of Earth-1051, the symbiote displayed the power to channel energy and fire it back at the opponent by morphing its arms into energy cannons, similar to its Earth-23203 counterpart. However, once it disconnected from Earth-1051's hive-mind it lost this ability.
    • Parasitic Inheritance: The symbiote can copy the powers and abilities of other beings by interfacing with their genetic code, and primarily utilizes the spider powers it adapted from Spider-Man, Malekith and Flash Thompson.
      • Spider-Man Inheritance:
        • Webbing Generation: The symbiote can convert its constituent matter into strands of white or black webbing, which it can shoot from the white patches on the back of its hands. The alien’s substance seems to be composed of tough, flexible fibers of organic polymers, which regenerate swiftly after "shedding." The strands have extraordinary adhesive properties, which diminish rapidly once they abandon their living source. After about three hours, with no source to nourish them, the strands dry up like dead skin and dissolve into a powder. The strands possess a tensile strength of 125 pounds per square millimetre of cross-section. The one limitation to this ability was used to Spider-Man's advantage during his second bout with Venom: Since the webbing itself is comprised of the symbiote's constituent matter, if Venom generates too much he will be left vulnerable as the symbiote is weakened and unable to replenish its lost mass for a short period of time.
        • ESP: Although the Venom symbiote does not possess a Spider-Sense, it possesses a similar extrasensory ability. This response is not as complicated as Spider-Man’s inherent sense since the alien costume can detect danger from every direction and conduct Brock in plenty of time. It's a lot more efficient than Spider-Man’s spider-sense because it takes less time to sense the danger, and Brock’s reflexes are faster than Spider-Man’s, even when they are enhanced by the alien costume for instance, Venom can dodge a gunshot or a barrage of bullets.
        • Immunity to Spider-Man's Spider-Sense: Due to Spider-Man being a host to the symbiote, Venom, and his offspring, are able to bypass Spider-Man's spider-sense. Venom is capable of attacking Spider-Man without alerting him, making Venom a deadly foe. It should be noted that as Ben Reilly was cloned from Peter before he bonded with Venom, Eddie was not immune to his spider-sense.
      • Malekith Inheritance:
        • Symbiotic Expansion and Psychic Control: Through Venom, Malekith could extend his symbiote to others and interlink them to his own being. Wielding his warriors like a puppet armed force which he could further guide and enhance with symbiote like abilities of they're own.
        • Constituent-Matter Manipulation: Like many users of the symbiote species, Malekith can conjure and utilize symbiote biomass in order to create his own colorful arsenal physiological extremities. The likes of razor-sharp or blunt-force melee weaponry, large batlike wings to fly with, or simply transforming the symbiote itself into a metamorphic blade.
        • Dark Magic Enhancement: Through his connection with one of Knull's creations, Malekith found that his own arcane abilities were greatly enhanced many times over, making both him and the symbiotes he'd bonded to powerful enough to trade blows with four iterations of the God of Thunder single handed.
        • Stretching and Deforming: To a limited extent Malekith could utilize the amorphous properties of the Venom Symbiote to further enhance himself; having used it elongate his tongue into a lethal razor whip he can fight with.
      • Flash Thompson Inheritance:
        • Hive Mind: After being purged of its bloodlust, the symbiote gained access to the symbiotes hive mind, enabling it to communicate with the symbiotes on their homeworld and access information about the species' past.
        • Cosmos Communion: As a cleansed Klyntar, the Venom symbiote is able to hear the "voice" of the Cosmos telling it of people in need of assistance.
        • Humanoid Form: Since being cleansed, the symbiote has developed the ability to take on a humanoid form independently of being bonded to its host, for a maximum duration of twelve Earth hours. After coming into contact with Knull, this ability was augmented to enable it to disguise itself as a human.
        • Proximity Tracking: Agent Venom can track others by leaving pieces of itself on others, seeking them out wherever they may go.
        • Self-Sustenance: The Venom Symbiote enables the host to survive anywhere in any hostile environment. Be it in the cold reaches of space, or fatally gaseous areas with relative ease. Flash could even impart this a hazardous element filtration system to others.
        • Morphomerge: One time while on mission Flash symbiotically bonded the symbiotes into a stripped and broken-down car in order to make it operational again. Said vehicle was not only greatly reinforced by its constituent matter; but had the appearance, tentacles and biting maw normally reminiscent of its feral state. Tel-Kar was also able to use it to interface with his spaceship.
  • God of Symbiotes: After vanquishing Knull, Eddie Brock became the new nexus of the Symbiote Hive and inherited his title of the King in Black. While this gave Eddie access to several of Knull's powers, it placed an immense amount of strain on his still-mortal body and caused him to rapidly age over the course of a few months.
    • Telepathy: Eddie is able to sense and telepathically communicate with symbiotes, their hosts, and manifested codices through the Hive-Mind. For unknown reasons, the Venom symbiote is the only one he cannot sense or communicate with.
    • Symbiote Domination: Through the Hive-Mind, Eddie is able to remote-pilot symbiotes, enabling him to see through their eyes, speak through them, and manipulate their biomasses even when not in direct contact with them; using them to create avatars of both his Venom and human forms. Having severed it from the Hive by freeing it from Knull's control, the Venom symbiote is the only one he cannot remote-pilot.
    • Temporal Manipulation: Being capable of seeing through the eyes of every symbiote that ever existed, Eddie theorized that he might be able to use the symbiote hive-mind to effectively time-travel and thus alter the past -- much like Knull once tried to do to prematurely bring about his awakening.
  • Expert Reporter: Before his bonding with the symbiote, Eddie Brock was an incredibly skilled reporter for the Daily Globe, and knew how to investigate. He also had many sources of information that aided him in helping with his plans.
  • Expert Marksman: Eddie is an expert marksman, as shown when he was hunting symbiotes and taking down Maniac's men.
  • Skilled Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Although he's had no proper training, Eddie is a formidable hand-to-hand combatant when using symbiotes.
  • Skilled Symbiote Hunter: Even though he is only human, Eddie was been able to take on and defeat several symbiotes. This was shown when he killed Scream and Hybrid while using advanced and normal weaponry.

Equipment[]

  • Divine Battle-Ax: When confronting Knull, the God of Light-empowered Eddie merged Mjolnir and the Silver Surfer's Surfboard into a battle-ax shaped like Venom's spider-emblem. With the combined might of the Enigma Force, Power Cosmic, and Asgardian divine magic, Eddie was able to make short work of numerous symbiote-dragons, effortlessly destroy Knull's Necrosword, easily overpower Knull himself, and rip Knull's symbiote-armor from his body. Eddie discarded the ax prior to flying Knull into the Sun and obliterating his physical body, and once he was divested of the Enigma Force the ax separated back into Mjolnir and the Surfboard, which were reclaimed by Thor and the Silver Surfer. As the new King in Black, Eddie sometimes manifested a replica of the ax while in combat, wielding it alongside a Necrosword.

Alternate Forms[]

Anti-Venom[]

  • White Symbiotic Costume: When the symbiote abandoned him, Eddie's cancer began spreading at an exponential rate. After the events of Brand New Day, Mr. Li cured him of his cancer and, due to the remnants of the symbiote left in his body, Eddie developed new powers. These remnants fused with Eddie's white blood cells which resulted in a new white symbiote that grants Eddie the majority of his old powers along with powerful new ones as Anti-Venom. The alien costume's remnants remained grafted to the nervous system of Eddie Brock, and fused with his white blood cells. This new white symbiote seems to not only be different in appearance and abilities, but even acts completely different from the original symbiote it evolved from. For instance, Eddie Brock refers to himself in first person as Anti-Venom, and is in complete control of his actions. This relationship is somewhat similar to Cletus Kasady's and the Carnage symbiote: Both symbiotes are bonded to their hosts at the cellular level and seem to compliment the user's personality (the Carnage symbiote loves to kill, and the Anti-Venom symbiote wants to destroy Venom.) However the white symbiote, unlike the other members of its race, seemingly has no influence on Eddie's actions, which is a far cry from his first symbiotic relationship.
    • External Symbiote Rejection: Upon being assaulted by Mac Gargan, the Venom symbiote attempts to leave Gargan to bond with Brock again. However Brock's skin is caustic to his former symbiote, which means the white symbiote has the ability to reject the Venom symbiote and presumably all of its children as well.
    • Constituent-Matter Manipulation: Anti-Venom can manipulate his matter to enlarge or stretch his body in order to augment his attacks. For example, he enlarged his fist and slammed it into Mac Gargan creating more of an impact. He can morph sections of his body, such as his hands or feet, into spikes, blades, axes or a shield.
    • Impurity Sense: Anti-Venom can sense foreign substances within a person's body which includes symbiotes, radiation, narcotics, viruses, and diseases.
    • Internal Bodily Cleansing: After sensing the impurity, Anti-Venom can forcefully "cure" the substance from the person's body. He uses this ability to almost completely destroy his old symbiote and to cure a young girl from her heroin addiction. This power can also be used to depower some superhumans, almost ridding Spider-Man of the radiation in his blood when attempting to destroy remnants of the symbiote, and nearly cleanses Radioactive Man of his powers in a similar fashion.
    • Spider-Power Negation: After failing to cleanse Spider-Man of his symbiote remnants and radiation in his blood, whenever Anti-Venom is too close to Peter his powers are effectively canceled until Eddie becomes distant enough from him. Alternatively, when Anti-Venom ensnares Spider-Man by binding with the bits of the suit that is fired off as webbing, it also negates Spider-Man's powers until Spider-Man breaks free from it.
    • Fire Immunity: In contrast to the other symbiotes, Anti-Venom is immune to fire and extreme heat. Examples of this includes withstanding the full force of one of the Punisher's flamethrowers and a superhot radioactive blast from Radioactive Man meant to immobilize Venom if he became out of control.
    • Sonic Immunity: Besides immunity to fire and heat, Anti-Venom also shows strong resistance against sonic-based attacks. For example, he was capable of withstanding Songbird's sonic-blast without any discomfort.
    • Original Venom Abilities: Excluding these new powers granted by the white symbiote, Anti-Venom still retained almost every power Eddie had while bonded with the Venom symbiote, including:
      • Superhuman Strength
      • Superhuman Durability
      • Superhuman Stamina
      • Superhuman Speed
      • Superhuman Agility
      • Superhuman Reflexes
      • Regenerative Healing Factor
      • Camouflage Capabilities
      • Elasticity
      • Webbing Generation
      • Constituent Matter Generation
      • Wall-Crawling
      • Offspring Detection
      • Genetic Memory
      • ESP
      • Spider-Sense Immunity
      • Night Vision

Toxin[]

  • Red and Black Symbiotic Costume: Toxin possesses the "unique" special abilities of his two symbiote predecessors. He can stick to walls, can change his identity to that of a completely different person and also has unlimited webbing, which takes on a shape of a steel chain in his case. Toxin can also blend in with its surroundings and become undetectable, and he can form solid weapons from his limbs like his father. Toxin also seems to have some sort of quick-healing ability like his predecessors, as his wounds from his first battle with Razor Fist healed instantly. Unlike the others, Toxin can track anyone, not just other symbiotes, as long as he has something to begin from, within the entire city of New York and possibly further. In addition, he seems to have a much stronger resistance to sonic attacks and intense heat compared to Carnage. As Toxin, Eddie can grow immensely in height whenever he is angry or loses control of the symbiote, and initially possesses a red body with black eyespots, small white eyes, and dozens of tendrils protruding from his back and shoulders. When confronting Venom in Philadelphia, Toxin's lower body and forearms were black with red veins. After joining the FBI, his appearance changed drastically, turning black with spikes on his legs, a red stylized spider emblem on his chest, eyespots, utility belt, pauldrons, and vambraces.
    • Superhuman Strength: He possesses vast superhuman strength, and is stronger than Spider-Man. Depending on how angry or upset he gets, he grows to a much larger size, with large claws and vicious fangs. His strength extends to his legs allowing him to leap heights and distances impossible for a normal human.
    • Superhuman Speed: He can move or run at speeds greater than any normal human being.
    • Superhuman Stamina: He can exert himself for at least 48 hours until fatigue impairs him.
    • Superhuman Agility: His agility is superior to any normal human being.
    • Superhuman Reflexes: His reflexes are superior to any normal human being.
    • Superhuman Durability: He is much more resistant to injury than Spider Man. The tissue the symbiote is composed of renders Brock's body much harder and much more resistant to physical injury than the body of an ordinary human. Brock can withstand high caliber bullets, great impact forces, powerful energy blasts, and falls from great heights without sustaining physical injury. He is durable enough that he can withstand multiple barrages of high-caliber weapons such as machine guns from close range completely unperturbed, and can withstand blows from superhuman beings such as Wrecker, Spider-Man, Carnage, etc unharmed. He also possesses an extreme resistance to pain, and seems to feel it only to a certain extent.
    • Genetic Memory: The symbiote possesses some limited psychic ability, making it capable of obtaining information from its hosts and even other people and symbiotes simply by touch. It can, however, be forced to forget information if the symbiote is inflicted with heavy trauma.
    • Offspring Detection: The symbiote is also capable of psychically detecting its offspring; however, with effort, this ability can be blocked.
    • Spider-Sense: Brock is also granted an extrasensory ability similar to Spider-Man’s spider-sense. This response is not as complicated as Spider-Man’s inherent sense since the alien costume can detect danger from every direction and conduct Brock in plenty of time. It's a lot more efficient than Spider-Man’s spider-sense because it is more simplified to where the danger is.
    • Spider-Sense Immunity: Due to Spider-Man being a host to the symbiote, Brock is able to bypass Spider-Man's spider-sense. As such, Brock is capable of attacking Spider-Man without alerting him, making him a deadly opponent.
    • Constituent-Matter Generation: Toxin can also use the same substance comprising the symbiote in the form of constituent black matter or he can generate tentacle-like appendages from various parts of his body, which he often uses either in combat situations or to restrain someone.
    • Shapeshifting: Toxin can manipulate his matter to enlarge or stretch his body in order to augment his attacks. He can morph sections of his body, such as his hands or feet, into spikes, blades, axes or a shield.
    • Elasticity: Although it is wide known that the Symbiote can stretch and deform itself, recently it was able to perform this ability while being bonded with a human host.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: He is capable of healing injuries in the host at a faster rate than normal human healing allows. The symbiote is even capable of healing injuries and illness that current human medical care cannot such as cancer and severe burns.
    • Invisibility: The symbiote is capable of mimicking the appearance of any form of clothing, camouflaging with its surroundings, and even mimicking other people.
    • Wall Crawling: Much like Spider-Man, Toxin has the ability to cling to virtually any surface. He can rapidly crawl, walk, or run across even slick/wet surfaces.
    • Webbing Generation: Toxin can project a powerful, organic web-like substance similar to the webbing Spider-Man has. He typically uses this webbing to swing from building to building or as a means of immobilizing someone. The webbing is incredibly strong.
    • Poisonous Fangs: An ability developed by Brock when he bonded with the symbiote. Toxin's fangs not only intimidate foes but deliver a powerful, toxic bite.
    • Night Vision: Toxin can see in the dark.
    • Superhuman Olfactory Senses: Toxin has a highly-developed sense of smell, and is able to track and identify targets through scent alone.

Dreamstone[]

  • Artificial Symbiotic Costume: After parting ways with the Venom symbiote, Eddie tricked one of Malekith's war witches into giving him a dreamstone - a dark elf artifact that can transform into whatever its user desires. The dreamstone initially manifested an artificial symbiote - influenced by Eddie's memories of and desire for the Venom symbiote, and replicated many of the Venom symbiote's powers and weaknesses. After being set ablaze by Jack O'Lantern, it reconfigured itself into a Venomized suit of Asgardian armor. Rather than let it corrupt him into a pawn of Malekith, Eddie relinquished it after defeating Jack O'Lantern.
    • Superhuman Strength
    • Superhuman Durability
    • Superhuman Stamina
    • Superhuman Speed
    • Superhuman Agility
    • Superhuman Reflexes
    • Regenerative Healing Factor
    • Webbing Generation
    • Wall-Crawling
    • Constituent-Matter Generation
    • Shapeshifting
    • Venomous Fangs
    • Empathetic Empowerment
    • Weapon Manifestation
    • Weather Manipulation

Feats[]

Strength[]

Speed[]

Durability[]

Skill[]

  • More accurate at web shooting than Spider-Man as Venom.
  • Can perform lobotomy with his tentacles.
  • Has fought the Juggernaut for a bit, as well as Ghost Rider, The Hulk and Iron Man.
  • Defeated Spider-Man, Electro, Sandman, & the Juggernaut.
  • Has repeatedly fought against and alongside Spider-Man, who he is often considered to be superior to
  • Besides Eddie Brock, the Venom symbiote has managed to successfully bond with other different hosts, including Spider-Man (who served as the basis for most of its powers), Mac Gargan (the former Scorpion), Lee Price and Flash Thompson
  • “Fathered” many of the Marvel universe’s symbiotes, and has proven to be capable of beating them despite often being portrayed as weaker
  • Eddie himself has bonded with about seven other symbiotes - the most known for any Marvel character; these include his stints as Toxin, Anti-Venom and Carnage
  • Successfully managed to kill Knull’s avatar, at the cost of leaving the Venom Symbiote brain-dead
  • Using the Legion Codices, murdered Dark Carnage (Cletus Kasady using the Grendel Symbiote)
  • Had a temporary stint as a vigilante when he returned to San Francisco
  • Obtained a boost in power by absorbing the Legion Codices, connecting to the Symbiote hive more than he ever had prior
  • Throughout the Venom symbiote’s existence, it has held membership claims with the Thunderbolts, War Avengers, Sinister Six and the Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Escaped the Realm of Madness
  • Battled the Klyntar, Poison & Dark Symbiote invasions
  • Defeated Spider-Man, Grendel and the Juggernaut

Weaknesses[]

  • Mental Instability: Eddie has been repeatedly shown relapsing into his unstable "lethal protector" mindset. As both Anti-Venom and Toxin, he reverted back to this persona, killing criminals just as offhandedly as when he was Venom. He is also addicted to the power bestowed upon him by being bonded to a symbiote, which has caused drastic shifts in his personality.
  • Sonic and Heat: The Venom symbiote, like all others of its kind, is extremely vulnerable to heat and sonic based attacks. They can cause the symbiote physical pain and discomfort, whereas "more powerful" attacks might be completely ineffective.
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: Eddie developed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following his encounters with Knull.

Venom[]

  • Altered Metabolism: As a result of being exposed to high concentrations of symbiote-suppressant drugs while bonded to the Toxin symbiote and working for the FBI, Eddie's metabolism was altered to make his body inhospitable to symbiotes. This has exacerbated the Venom symbiote's psychological corruption and caused it to begin to lose physical cohesion. Eddie's altered metabolism was cured when he was doused in Alchemax's Anti-Venom serum by Spider-Man.
  • Anti-Venom: Flash Thompson's Anti-Venom suit is toxic to the Venom symbiote. Its touch is very painful to Venom and its host, and prolonged contact will eventually kill it. However, the Anti-Venom replica died along with Flash Thompson when the Red Goblin murdered him.
  • Knull: Knull, a dark god who created the symbiotes, is able to mentally influence and dominate them, including Venom, driving them insane with bloodlust and enslaving them to his will. If Eddie is wearing the symbiote while Knull is controlling it, he loses control over it. However, since Eddie himself has killed Knull and become the new King in Black, he is no longer susceptible to Knull's influence.

Anti-Venom[]

  • Osborn's Cure: As Anti-Venom, he can only be weakened by poisons that infect the body. The white symbiote takes the damage leaving Eddie powerless. Norman created the virus using Freak's DNA.
  • Mister Negative's Powers: As Martin Li's power was the source responsible for the creation of the Anti-Venom suit, the symbiote is vulnerable to Mister Negative's power. Similarly to Osborn's cure, it can weaken or nullify the suit's healing powers until Mister Negative's power is no longer directly in contact with it.
  • Antibody Overuse: If Anti-Venom overuses his healing powers, the symbiote becomes weakened and can potentially be overwhelmed and purged.

Toxin[]

  • Sonics and Heat: The Toxin symbiote, like all others of its kind, is extremely vulnerable to heat and sonic based attacks. They can cause the symbiote physical pain and discomfort, whereas "more powerful" attacks might be completely ineffective. However, the Toxin symbiote is more resilient to these attacks than most other members of its species.
