Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti is the main antagonist of the third arc of the Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu series of light novels, anime and manga.
Background
A mysterious Spirit that used to live as a regular man, until he accidentally killed his close friend Fortuna. Although the details are mostly unkown, after that, he joined the Witch's Cult, and his power soon made him rise through the ranks to become the Sin Archbishop of Sloth.
Powers & Abilities
- Authority of Sloth: As one of the Sin Archbishops, Petelgeuse has special abilities related to the Sin he represents.
- Unseen Hands: Invisible hands that Petelgeuse can summon at any time. Normally, he can summon about a dozen hands, but they can be combined to make bigger and stronger hands. He can use them to travel at higher speeds while floating.
- Sloth: Petelgeuse can control the minds of slothful individuals who can't use Spirit Magic. He can cause hallucinations, blindness, agonizing pain, and other harmful effects.
- Earth Magic: Petelgeuse has shown the ability to manipulate the ground to create defensive structures.
- Possession: Being a spirit, Petelgeuse has the ability to forcibly take over other people's bodies, which he dubs "Fingers". In order to take over someone's body, that person needs to have an affinity with Spirits. Petelgeuse can do this even after his regular body has been destroyed.
Equipment
- The Gospel: A book that every member of the Witch's Cult owns. It grants the user a chance to see the future through vague details. Only the original owner can read it.

Fun Facts
- His name was intentionally misspelled by the novel's author as Petelgeuse instead of Betelgeuse for reasons that have yet to be revealed.
